Who the godspitting dogbollocks are you calling an engineer?

As it happens I enjoy food too much to want photosynthesis. as such, lpetrich's idea is perfect. I want control of my metabolism.

I saw a giant sloth on walking with beasts recently, that had little plates of bone under its skin, acting as built - in chainmail. Actually, anything that makes me a bit harder to kill would be great. I am far too fragile for my liking.

Great Googly-moogly! No, thanks. I'd like to keep my job, leave my room, etc.

I don't have to have them; just make me capable of causing them.

More seriously, I'd like to separate my breathing passages from my food ingestion mechanisms so I wouldn't have nearly as much risk of choking to death . . . if only I could figure out a way colds wouldn't then kill me.

You used to be able to, kind of. In infants, the tip of the soft palate (velum) reaches or overlaps with the tip of the epiglottis. This configuration helps prevent choking. As the infant grows, the tract gradually reshapes itself in the adult pattern, which increases the risk of choking but also permits a greater range of sounds to be articulated.

I would like the kidneys of a kangaroo rat, so I could drink beer longer without having to run to the bathroom.

Cheers,

I've heard about this. I think I'd be willing to make the trade as an adult too; if nothing else, maybe it would have prevented Mariah Carey. (Unless the range of sounds to which you refer includes normal speech.)

More seriously, I was thinking more along the lines of not having them connect at all, but I understand the utility of having two separate ways to draw oxygen into the lungs. (Thus my comment on colds.)
