Default Tackle - big beyond its means?

I have just finished reading Steve Jones - Almost Like a Whale

Basically he tries nothing less than revising Darwins Origin of Species, and does a pretty good job (in my amateur scientists eyes).

One point he does raise (uh err missus) is the size of the male humans penis.

Apparently amongst the primates its HUGE (so much so that King Kong could feasibly have done the dirty with Fay Wray - now that's one remake that would be Guaranteed to make money).

The assumption is that it was a males way of attracting a mate.

It leave's it at that, but I kinda think this works, it explains so many things - for one the male obsession with the size of thier trouser snake.

(not sure if this is too low brow for evolution/creation? I leave it to the Mods).

Age

(edited to add - I don't know how the heck king Knog was but he certainly was not a 50' gorilla)

"We do not know why men have conspicuous genitals, but a male chimp solicits a female by opening his legs, displaying an erect penis and flicking his phallus with a finger as he gazes at a potential partner. A prominant, distinctive penis helps broadcast one's individuality and sexual vigor, which may lure female friends. In many species of insects and primates, males have exceptionally elaborate penises, and scientists think these evolved specifically because females chose those males with elaborate, sexally stimulating genitals. So perhaps as Lucy's ancestors became bipedal some four million years ago, males began to parade their genitals in order to make special friends with favored females--selecting for those with large organs." (Fisher, H. (1992) Anatomy of Love: The Mysteries of Mating, Marriage, and Why We Stray. Simon & Schuster, New York, 1992. pp. 177)
Lots of references on primate penises
here.

It's lucky i'm in a steady relationship otherwise I might be tempted to wizz on down the local nightclub and give the ladies the eye... if you know what I mean.
Marvellous

And this is Chimps, spot the differance, I certainly can't.
One up for evolution then?

John Ashcroft: We have captured the rampaging monkey, King Kong. In order to avoid offending the Christian morals of television viewers, he will not be displayed to the press until he has been fitted with a large pair of Underoos."
