Post How important is the Old Testament to Islam?

It is said that Islam is an "Abrahamic" religion. I take this to mean that, like Christianity, it is in some sense derived from Judaism. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) So, do Muslims consider the Old Testament to be as important to their religion as Christians do? If no, why not? Does a Muslim fundamentalist believe that the OT literally describes the creation of Earth/humanity etc., or are there "overriding" passages in the Q'uran which address early history? Can Allah be identified with the Hebrew god YHWH?

This should probably be in Miscellaneous Religious Discussions so off it goes.
