Post Religion in Ohio Schools

I don't know if this has already circulated.

<a href="http://ecology.cwru.edu/ohioscience/" target="_blank">petition </a>

I'm also posting the link in the evolution forum.

Well, I'm just now looking over the petition, but I thought i'd ask a quick question. Our high school is pretty small, and in a small town with a lot of fundies. Well our genious superintendent decided to make all the teaching staff put a "In God We Trust" poster/picture in their rooms. I was wondering if this is legal or not being that it is a public school. Newcomerstown High School if anyone has heard of it
Thanks,
Anthony

I'm pretty sure he can't make the teachers put a poster/sign like that up, but it is ok for the teachers to do it willingly.

Just be a hoodlum and take them down.

Teachers can't put it up in their classrooms for the students to see. Teachers, while in the classroom, are agents of the government and can not oput religious stuff up on the walls in a public school.

Blind, check this from the US Department of Education on <a href="http://www.ed.gov/Speeches/08-1995/religion.html" target="_blank">RELIGIOUS EXPRESSION IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS</a>.

Quote:
Official neutrality regarding religious activity: Teachers and school administrators, when acting in those capacities, are representatives of the state and are prohibited by the establishment clause from soliciting or encouraging religious activity, and from participating in such activity with students. Teachers and administrators also are prohibited from discouraging activity because of its religious content, and from soliciting or encouraging antireligious activity.

Thanks for the link. I didn't think that they were allowed to do that, and several of my teachers are putting them up backwards. He didn't say how to hang them
