The basic issue here is one of control. Laws banning sex except in particular cases, particular kinds of sex, abortion, whatever... serve only one purpose, and it's not their stated purpose. It's an attempt to control sexuality through fear of punishment. In the end, the only people who can be regularly prosecuted under such laws are women. Why is this? Men don't get pregnant.
The nutjobs that propose laws like this know that they're generally unenforcable. But they also know that they're enforcable enough for them to go after the targets that bother them the most.... women who dare to step outside of their little accepted sexual norms. |

And now to fix it! Theistic religion should be outlawed because of the disastrous effects it has on all those involved and society at large. Enforcement of such laws should, as in the past, be judicious. No one wants police peeking into people's windows, but the moral suasion of law and the potential for prosecution both serve important socio-cultural functions to minimize this immoral scourge that degrades and debases women and civilization. Jihad against theism: combatting theism until there is no person alive that believes in God or worships him! |

Personally, I consider sex a vocation, not a recreation.

We can't outlaw something because of the potential. Read:Alcohol. Read:Money. Read:Marriage.
To outlaw recreational sex is forcing people to hold back from something for no other reason but that it MAY lead to emotional or physical problems. |

The ironic thing is that while these guys are promoting a ban on recreational sex, their wives are getting banged by the rest of us who find recreation the only valid reason for sex.

Let's -- for the moment -- ignore the issue of sex outside of marriage. What I want to know is this: if a man and woman who're married to each other have sex just for the fun of it, does this guy actually think there's something wrong with this?
A few years ago, there was a letter to the editor of the local newspaper in which the writer espoused the view that sex for any reason other than procreation was sinful. She went on to say that she "thanked God that my husband only had to violate (sic!) me three times in order to beget our three beautiful children." I'm thinking that if she's telling the truth (a big "if"), and that she's had sex only three times and gotten pregnant each time then she's as fertile as topsoil. In any event, I'd be surprised indeed if her husband shares her views on the immorality of sexual intercourse. *** It's sad indeed that people would deny themselves one of life's greatest pleasures because they think their God would disapprove. On the other hand, to paraphrase Carl Sagan, maybe it's a good thing if religious fanatics disapprove of sex -- maybe that means they'll produce fewer children on average. If so, that will help to weed any genes that promote religious fanaticism out of the gene pool. Cheers, Michael [ April 23, 2002: Message edited by: The Lone Ranger ]</p> |

banning recreational sex also has the direct result of banning homosexuality, probably rather convenient for this Christian in question. i imagine if his views on sex are so regressive then his views on sexual orientations couldnt possibly be that much better.
