I am the only one thinking...
...about how the 4th of July is going to be abused this year? Before it would have bee centered on being the first 4th of July after 9/11/2001. I still think it will, be the pledge will be specifically said in many ceremonies with "under God" probably shouted. I think this will be used with the 9/11 stuff to make it look like you need to be a theist, or worse a Christian, to be a good (read: patriotic) American. I am just paranoid, or does anyone else see this sort of thing happening next week?

I've never said the Pledge at my usual 4th of July celebration - picnic with fireworks, or hanging out with the cat at home.
With the big win that the theocrats had in the voucher decision, the flap over the Pledge may be over sooner than we want. |

Most likely there'll be a Pledge of Alliegance at my town's celebration, given that 70% of the United States thinks their poor widdle Pwedge is getting all abused and censored. I, personally, will be out there on the Fourth shouting "UNDER ZEUS" or, um... any suggestions?

I just told my kids to say "under guard" instead of "under God".

Luckily the 4th around here is a low-key thing with just some fireworks and food that the whole town comes out for. I've never heard the Pledge spoken at the event.

With all the hubbab being about Islam, terrorists, 9/11, etc. I think that you would get a good (read: apalled outrage) response if you were to say "One Nation, under (shout) ALLAH.
