Placards for Godless March
(Laurie) Here are a few sayings I came up with to put on placards & signs for the Godless March that everyone here is welcome to use. IMHO it would be better public relations-wise to focus on the positives of atheism, and on funny (read media-attracting) slogans, rather than sentiments pointing out the negatives of religious belief. (At the Los Angeles Shadow Convention in 2000, the candidates' names being what they were, I simply could not resist going for irreverent. My sign was a big, fat red-lipped mouth with a red tongue hanging out reading: Lick Bush and Dick in 2000!)
Anyway, placards for the Godless March Positive: I'm A Patriotic Atheist And I VOTE! Bill of Rights Thumpin' Atheist! Skepticism Is The First Step Toward Truth Question Authority Think For Yourself All great truths begin as blasphemies. - George Bernard Shaw Start Questioning Today! Funny: Do You Tithe To God? Why? Did He Lose His Wallet? Religion-tweakers: Don't Buy Zeus Don't Buy Allah Don't Buy God Religions Are Myths Save Your Money! God = Santa Claus For Grownups Down With ALL Religious Zealots! Be a Freethinker! And flat-out hardcore: If "Almighty" God Let 3,000 Die on 9/11, Then God Is a Terrorist. God Was JFK Jr's Copilot Too |

I would stick to "positive" as there may be some religious people who march in support, and it may be extensively covered by the media...
... and as it has been pointed out many times, the media are notorious for "slanting" their coverage whenever a group considered somewhat socially unacceptable goes marching. They will not interview the majority of nice, moderate, friendly, positive Godless Americans. They will find the one with the loudest and (they hope) most offensive mouth, shirt or banner and interview that one. I still like "One Nation Indivisible" myself... |

Redoing something I wrote in another topic:
A good WALL makes for good neighbors! Keep Church & State separate A couple others: Atheists have heroes, too! Our thanks to America's men & women in uniform! Freethinkers aren't the enemy... Hate and Intolerance are! UNITED WE STAND... PERIOD! Think right! Vote left! |

Everyone should have a small one that says:
"Quick! Where is the bathroom?" Comes in handy for those crowds on the Mall. |

The quickest way to create antipathy towards our cause is to march around with placards that stereotype and scapegoat - especially since the ones being sterotyped and made into scapegoats are the ones who run the media and thus all popular opinion.
An atheist wearing "Religious zealots are responsible for 9/11" is the same as a theist walking around wearing "Hitler was an atheist too". Haven't you ever heard of the quote "causes too often become the things they oppose"? |

Oh, and as for my idea, it's hard to go past the reliable:
Atheism is a non-prophet orginisation. |
