Its amazing how little imagination Atheists seem to possess. God is omnipotent. He will keep us quite fulfilled and happy for all eternity. There will be too much to do to be bored, because God can always create new things never before seen by humans. It will take a LONG time just to learn everything there is about God and to understand Him completely. He could create more universes and life systems in which we'd rule over, or we can manage the Stars and Solar Systems, keeping them in order and studying them. The possibilities are endless.

Well, that explains the OT.

What do the resident Christians think of the views expressed in the book What Dreams May Come (there was also a film by the same name that basically had the same premise)?

I've never read the book or seen the movie so below you will see what I have to say:

Iv'e seen the movie. What about it? Its a movie. Some of it could be similar to the Biblical Heaven and Hell but its still a movie.

Yes, but it would also be eternal fascination.

I would train monkeys to grow and smoke marajuana. I would learn to make robots, and build a bunch of them that would think they were the characters from Farscape, and they would make more episodes of the show for me. I would have sex with my houris. (I don't know about that "perpetual virgin" crap though. I should hope I could teach them a trick or two...) I would kayak around the world. (Or whatever the hell heaven has to kayak in.) I would get a giant steamroller, and smash everything. I would start a cockfighting ring. I would do truck loads of drugs. I would create a three-day-long animated movie about Tatiana Susskind. I would become a private detective in Las Vegas.

I'm pretty sure I could get a lot of good stuff out of the way before I became too bored.

The only point where I wouldn't like heaven no more, is if God started getting in my face about what I can and can't do in heaven.

That's still a short-sighted misconception of eternity. Life on earth is valuable because it is FINITE. Infinite life has NO value. It is absolutely worthless. There is no reason to do anything because you have an infinite amount of time to do it. Simply EXISTING for eternity is the worst punishment conceivable. Maybe that's why the Christian God is so irritable, jealous and mean-spirited .

<sigh>

I posed the question because most Christians disagree with the book and film's portrayal of Heaven and Hell, and yet most can't really say why they disagree - the usual answer is "well, it's just wrong" (go figure). I was hoping someone could comment without me having to sort of direct you to answer.

So you while away a few centuries or millenia doing all the things you wished you had time for. Then what? You'd still have an eternity left to try to amuse yourself.

Well actualy a hundred mystics have already given us some pretty goof hints of hevens joys.

In my vision of heaven, somebody will say something like "Do you remember what we used to call love?" And their listeners will burst into laughter for a thousand years.
