Favorite member of the "atheist pantheon"
One of my more controversial beliefs is that just as most religions have one or more gods behind them, so does atheism (as a popular belief). And I have an idea of six particular deities who are in this atheist pantheon. (Not the only six, just the only known six.) All represent distinctively post-Renaissance trends.
So who is your favorite of the six? Suspending your disbelief, of course. Descartes' philosophy--a deity of Cartesian thought and the entities that are highly important in it. Freedom--self-explanatory. Media--a deity of all mass media. Progress--not what it sounds like; this deity wants progress, but is remarkably bad at knowing how to achieve it. Science--a god of new technology, good science, and any bad science that is currently considered to be good science. Sex--a deity of both the physical and the emotional aspects of sexuality. |

Unfair!
Talk about stacking the deck! How can I not choose "sex"? Isn't that what we all joined the Evil Atheist Conspiracy™ for?
Hmm. Now that I think about it, I'm not getting all that much for my membership dues. |

That hapless Progress god reminds me of Mr. Magoo. I wanna buy it a drink and put it in a taxi.

My two-year old nephew has somehow come to believe that Plumbers and Garbagemen are benevolent, Santa Claus like entities, sneaking into his home at night and bringing him gifts. And while he's certainly a little confused as to the exact nature of their benevolence, I think he may be onto something.
Could I maybe write them in? Because, really, I would afford more gratitude to someone who takes away my garbage and cleans out my sewer lines than some dead philosophizing guy. Or to science. Hell, what has science ever done for me? It sticks me to the ground and makes me subject to a bunch of other rules I don't want to follow. Science, in fact, is the CAUSE of poop and garbage. No, I will not worship your evil gods. |

My highest value could be called any of Happiness/Flourishing/Prosperity/Self-Actualization. The rest you mention are her handmaidens, at best. |
