The idea that other planets had to be inhabited is an old one, one that is at least as old as Galileo. Some of his opponents pointed out this difficulty with Galileo's discovery that other planets are Earthlike objects: since God does nothing in vain, God must have populated them. But their human inhabitants would not be descended from Adam and Eve, and they could not possible believe in Jesus Christ, so these other planets must not be Earthlike objects.

This conundrum was revisited by Thomas Paine in his Age of Reason; he wondered whether other planets have their Adams and Eves, whether Jesus Christ had lived on those places, etc.

I don't think Mars has any real chance of supporting life in the future. With the absence of a moon that stabilizes the tilt of it's axis the climate will change much too rapidly and randomly for life to have a decent chance of developing.

DNAunion: What about Namek? Or planet Vegita? No, wait, the latter one was blown up by Lord Freeza. You remember him, don't you - the guy you sliced into bits with your sword in a matter of seconds (and here it had taken Goku 10 episodes just to partly kill him!).

Why stars and planets?

I'll try to find the qoute but the Babble says somewhere it says stars help us tell the "times and seasons".

The Koran mentions the exact same think if I remember but I will have to find that qoute too.

I heard from a creationist that God created the stars and planets because he knew that humans would enjoy looking at them at night.

Human biosphere technology is becoming more feasible and this can give weight to the argument that planets are there to be populated and mined. Especially seeing as the human population isnt showing many signs of slowing down.

Funny. He could have mentioned something about it in that book of his.
He probably didnt see it necessary to talk about something so far off in the future. What would humans benefit from this knowledge back then?

Well thats the same reason why god made sunsets. There's got to be something to hang on the walls

It's a good thing God threw in a planet around 47 Ursae Majoris in case we are traveling by and need a place to crash for the night.

Venus would make a great summer home, good thing God didn't make it inhospitable or anything.

You'd think god would've been nice and thrown a little O2 on Mars for us if it's purpose is colonization.

Nevermind, I don't know why I respond to trolls.

He had to make other stars & planets because He realized: how else would we know our zodiac signs?
Our zodiac signs are based on where the Sun was on the day of our birth, not the planets.

You silly heathen, we are not meant to understand god's greater plan. Everything has a purpose, and a worthless infidel such as yourself could never comprehend the infinite wisdom of the lord!!
