Here's a eutherian mammal, a Deer Mouse (Peromyscus maniculatus) from North America:
For comparison, here's a marsupial, a Yellow-Footed Antechinus (Antechinus flavipes) from Australia: The most recent common ancestor of these two critters lived something like 100 million years ago. Cheers, Michael |

More fun with convergent evolution
This plant is a cactus, Ferocactus echidne. Like all true cacti, it's native to the New World (the Sonoran Desert, in this case). Its spines are modified leaves.
This plant is not a cactus; it's not even a close relative of a cactus. It's a euphorb native to the deserts of southern Africa, Euphorbia obesa. Its spines are modified shoots. Tens of millions of years (at least) separate it from its most recent common ancestor with a cactus. |

Ladyshea,
The corrections were for your own information. As for others being apprised of the fact, I don't think it's that important. |

Ok here's my latest endeavour (with thanks to Morpho for the help):
The three animals are one each of the following: 1) African Pouch Rat 2) Antechinus (carnivorous marsupial, related to the Tasmanian devil) 3) Potoroo (also a marsupial, related to the kangaroo) Which is which? Edit: apologies to the moderators for the rather rude picture #2 |

And another simple multiple choice:
Spot the odd ones out: They are either: 1) Genet 2) Civet 3) Bearcat 4) Quoll 5) Coatimundi Coatimundi is of the family Procyonidae Quoll is a marsupial from the family Dasyuridae The others are all from the family Viveridae Again, which is which? (Many thanks to DonnieDarko for hosting the second pic) |

Last one, I promise.
One of these jellyfish belongs to a completely different class from the others. For reference, mammals and reptiles, for example, belong to different classes. Which is it? |
