Ambulocetus natans
And now for the latest chapter of "As the Pelvis Turns..."
"Additional Holotype Remains of Ambulocetus Natans (Cetacea, Ambulocetidae), and their Implications for Locomotion in Early Whales" S.I. Madar, J.G.M. Thewissen, and S.T. Hussain Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology 22(2):405-422, June 2002 After being "in press" for a year, the technical publication of the remaining undescribed parts of 80% complete Ambulocetus including the infamous pelvis. The link between the whales and the artiodactyls got further support as did the transitional nature of its means of locomotion. Those with access to university computers might be able to access it online. Punch up the journal in the catalog of the university library. Anyone with relevant technical training is more than welcome to put in their $0.02. |
