I prefer CNN's reporting of the story. It makes a point that Arnett is involved in trying to find journalists that are missing and suspected of being detained by the Iraqi government. I'm leaving open the possibility that Arnett gave the interview in an effort to get information on the missing journalists.

NBC terminated its relationship with Arnett after viewers and advertisers demanded it. Most of the complainants probably have not heard or read the text of the interview or given a second thought to what it might be like to be interviewed by an official from the "Ministry of Information" of a regime known for its brutality while, at least two other journalists are unaccounted for.

So, a national TV. network is pandering to its audience and advertisers. Is this something new? If, broadcast network TV didnt suck, we never wouldve developed cable TV networks.

OK, so why do the cable TV networks suck, then?

Same reason: limited access to distribution channels. Which, is why we will eventually develop broadband "networks". They'll probalby suck, too but that'll be because people are insane.

Default Arnett

Whenever I see a report like this, I go to lucianne.com for the calm, reasoned analysis of real Americans:

"Or, an even better result. A GPS guided bomb could land on him. What a tragedy, he gave his all for journalism."

"Why is Peter Arnett a treasonous [posterior orifice] who bends over and grabs his ankles for the Saddam regime? And why is MSNBC pimping for him?"

"Well..? Are you all surprised that a Peter needs a dicktoter to carry him around?"

"The war plan has failed? Not nearly as badly as your comb-over has failed, Pete-uh."

"The intellectual scum has risen to the surface after decades of anti-American, anti-male brainwashing in our schools, entertainment, news media etc."

"The only thing left to do for Benedict Arnett is adjust the noose!"

"It is obvious from Peter's past behavior that he has a pattern and a mind-set to destroy American's military might via his position in the media."

"Apologies won't cut it this time. A trial, old sparky and no further problems with so called journalistic treason."

And so on.

By the way, it looks like Geraldo is next.

Post Veteran War Reporter Peter Arnett Fired

The story at CNN

What do you guys think?

I don't think it was the smartest thing to do, and in hindsight I'm sure he's kicking himself, but does such a misstep warrant his firing?

After all, it's not as though his words have magical powers to empower the Iraqis to defeat the US (I'm thinking that some people will say "in a time of war such statements are treasonous yaddayaddayadda... aiding the enemy blah blah...")

What ever happened to freedom of speech?

Never mind, don't answer that...

He was a bit of a jerkoff, but he and his crew got rather interesting shots of Baghdad. Not exactly the most objective journalist.

Well, COAS, I think it will only get worse in the USA.

On the whole, you and Vicesboy are probably better off in Europe;
if future events prove me right, then you're both very welcome to stay with me;

if future events prove me wrong, well now, all the better I suppose.
