Talking Barton at it again

I ran across this while perusing an email list. Thought it might be of interest to Barton debunkers here:

David Barton Strikes Again

It's a thorough debunking of Bartons article "James Madison and Religion in Public". There are lots of good links in the notes. The link to the Left Hook! article mentioned is here.

Very good article, and a very interesting list (ex-Libertarian).

Dr. Newdow and Jim Allison are in e-mail contact. Jim has provided all the accurate information that Newdow lacked (needed)in that interview.

Historians of colonial era America should be outraged at David Bartons preposterous statements/allegations. I just wish there were some method of nationally exposing Barton as an official liar/propagandist for the radical right religious conservatives. Barton's errors have been exposed time and time again but the media refuses to condemn him as a historical charlatan of the religious right..even though Barton as actually admitted fabricating quotes slanted to assist Christianity. Why aren't there headlines shouting, "David Barton Caught Creating History Again? Historical spokesperson for the religious right caught in yet another web of historical revisionism and lies?"

Maybe someone should bet Hannity that he can't validate the words of Barton. After Hannity lost enough money, maybe he would think twice before using Barton materials.

Glad you guys liked it.

The original article about Barton (slightly easier to read) can be found here if you scroll down to the second article. I was initially under the mistaken impression that the author was the email list member.

Interestingly, Barton even has a retraction of several of his erroneous statements on his website.

As far as I can tell, Barton doesn't exactly admit error. Like the AiG "arguments creationists shouldn't use" page, he just says that those quotes shouldn't be used anymore, and doesn't bother apologizing for spreading the false information to begin with. Unless I missed it somewhere. One thing's for sure: he hasn't learned his lesson.
