Does religion have an effect on creativity and productivity?
I am asking this because my somewhat deranged roommate while we were talking about religion said that he worst thing that happened to Central and South America was that they were colonized by Catholic countries and not Protestant countries. And he is one of those people who thinks that Jesus went to India after his fake death and resurrection succeeded, so he is not a Protestant.
So, does Catholicism in any way act as more of a drain of mental or financial resources than protestantism? Does the near worship of a Pope as the representative of god on earth compare to the worship of Jesus as a personal saviour? What about all the ritual in catholicism? Or "Catholic Guilt"? Does that leave less room in the brain to be creative? Also, does anyone know how the rates of true adherence to Protestantism in the US and Catholicism in Central and South America compare? I feel that maybe his statement and that it gibed with me may be nothing more than pure anti-catholic bigotry, but I want some input on this if you guys don't mind. |

My hatred for missionaries will taint my opinions. Plus I know nothing about South America. So I'll stay out of this. |
