Evolution: Big deal
I understand that many people doubt evolution, especially xtians.
How do they explain Australopithecus? Are there not many examples of our ancestors? I'm just not terribly familiar with the debate, and if anyone could give me a run down, that would be sweet. TIA |

There are sections of Christianity who have a problem with evolution, because they think it invalidates original sin. If original sin is invalidated then Jesus didn't "save" anyone.
In any event, their are a few flavors of this sort of fundamentalism: YEC=Young Earth Creationism, which mistakenly believes the earth is anywhere between 6-12k years old. They usually believe in a world wide flood, a vast conspiracy of atheists trying to mislead people, that mankind walked with dinosaurs, etc. Dr. Dino is a good example Then there are IDer's, which are 'intelligent design' proponents. They pretty much accept most scientific discovery, including the basics of evolution (IIRC), the difference is they believe that evolution is guided and that it is obvious. The main proponents of this line of thinking are Behe and Dempski. Here's some info: In either case (ID or YEC) there is no evidence of support that isn't fabricated or quoted out of context. There aren't any scientific peer-reviewed journals involving either. |

Yeah, Roland got it, there's a whole lot of stupid in the US so it's not that hard to convince most people that evolution is false. Usually creationists can say "this falsifies evolution" when it doesn't, and their audience doesn't know that it doesn't, so they just buy it. Another good site is www.answersingenesis.com they have some funny stuff there too.

Land Down Under = Australia. It's true, the US doesn't have a monopoly on stupidity, just a large market share.
