The shortest answer is: NO, it is not 'inerrant'.
Without getting into the definitional word games, the shorter answers must start with the 'Dei Verbum' ie the Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation of the second Vatican Ecumenical Council, promulgated Nov 1965. "Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture, then, are bound closely together and communicate one with the other. For both of them, flowing out from the same divine well-spring, come together in some fashion to form one thing and move towards the same goal." DV9 [from para 80 of the 1994 US Catechism] DV has 26 chapters and rests on Vat I and Trent....... QV: Modern Catholicism, Vatican II and After (ed) Adrian Hastings, 1991 'Inerrancy' is the fundy cult distinction which divides them from the rest of evangelical Protestants and the main stream Protestant sects. Historically all Protestants claim 'Scriptura Sola' while following their own traditions [small t]such as Calvin, Luther, Wesley etc. |

I dont think they do think it is entirely inerrant as they have adopted the big bang theory and are debating on if Aliens exist do they have the problem of the original sin etc (this is sounding a little like Father Ted, 'Bishops love Sci-Fi!'). They do however hold the rest of the Bible to be pretty much inerrant (esps Gospels)

A friend of mine, a Jesuit who is a prof at Santa Clara U, calls it "The Protestant Cult of the Bible." He considers it strange, and not too far from idol worship, that some Protestants are so Ga Ga over , what he calls, "the instruction book."
