Smile Mormons.... wow!!!

I am a recently deconverted Christian of the United Methodist variety, and had a vague understanding of the Mormons, or "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints."

I have gone to lunch with my boss, who is a Mormon, and received a two-hour description of his religion. This took place when I still believed in god, and so I kind of took it in stride; I found it a little odd, but since I believed in Jesus, it just seemed like an offshoot of Christianity.

WOW was I wrong!! Now that I can analyze his religion with the clear eyes and head of atheism, it seems all the more ridiculous. Why in hell would people actually BELIEVE this crap? And I thought plain old vanilla Christianity was far-fetched!

Even more amazing to me is the fantastic wealth and land ownership this cult enjoys. What has possessed seemingly good people to contribute so freely to such an obvious hoax? I suppose the same thing can be said of Christianity in general, but it seems a different order of magnitude with the LDS.

Has anyone else been struck by the audacity of the Mormon faith?

Probably because their welfare system is better and more sound than that of the US Govt. They've got huge underground parking structures in Salt Lake with cars that members can "check out" when they need them (my neighbor has seen this).

If it weren't for the underwear and lack of other niceties, might not be a bad club to join!

Definitely, And what's really shocking is that they seem so normal. I had the "pleasure" of seeing an interview with Donny Osmond on TV today. What a thoroughly decent, caring, intelligent example of the best of American manhood he seems to be. Nearly made me puke actually. But I would never have guessed he could believe in something so preposterous.

When i first read about the Mormons i could not believe it!, it was so absurd that it defied comprehension and shows us the bare bones of how absurd Story based (rather than Philosophy based) Religion is!, Only in America!

Funny how the "pot, kettle" article mentions that LDS is much like the Branch Davidians because of the emphasis on the teachings of someone other than Jesus. I think they forgot to mention Catholicism somewhere in there. I guess if the brainwashed cult gets big enough, it's not considered a brainwashed cult anymore. <img src="graemlins/banghead.gif" border="0" alt="[Bang Head]" />

It always surprises me when people from one religion slam the members of another based on their beliefs.

I was having lunch today with a friend of mine who's a Mormon. The conversation got around to religion and he started talking about how he couldn't believe how Hindus could believe what they did and how it was such an odd religion. I had to seriously bite my tongue to stop from mentioning all the crap that consititutes Mormon "beliefs". He's a good friend, so I didn't want to rail at him about how stupid and hippocritical that comment was.

It constantly amazes me that otherwise intelligent people can use critical thinking in every other aspect of their lives just seem to be totally unable to apply it to this.

BTW, to back my friend up I'd just like to say that Hindus do have a lot of really odd beliefs.
