Godless March: What to say?
You're at the march. A reporter looking for the "average marcher's" point of view sticks a microphone in your face and asks...
"Why are you here today?" Your answer would be.... |

"Three words: hot atheist women."
No, seriously ... my response would probably be something like: "To let people know that we are here, that we matter, and that we vote." --W@L |

Great question, Alonzo!
I'm sure there will be plenty of good suggestions on how to answer the question, "Why are you here?" But most of you who will participate in the march are perfectly capable of speaking for yourselves. I bet the purpose of this thread is to make everyone aware that they had better be prepared to answer this question. Don't be caught unprepared! There may be other questions as well. From what source do you derive your morality? What stops you from sinning? How do you think you got here? You must answer these questions in such a way as to portray yourself in a positive manner - without putting down the theists who comprise the majority of the American population. Be prepared! |

This is my attempt to make some small contribution to the quality of the march by inviting people to think about how they may best use certain opportunities that could present themselves. I believe your other questions are also important questions. And I think it may be a good idea to go over a few possible answers, just to see if they may be worded a bit better, or reworded to avoid unforeseen complications. |

No idea what I'd say. I'd probably run the instant I saw a camera-person coming. I'm looking for work and don't need my face pointed out as associated with something controversial; it's one thing to be in a group of people from a distance, b/c an interviewer would be unlikely to remember that, but quite another to be talking---possibly with foot firmly in mouth---in a head-shot on TVs all over the country. That and I'm not much of a media critter anyway, and too distinctive-looking to be doing anything that might get me recognized by the common citizen. I take public transportation on a regular basis and don't want to have to start packing heat for my safety.

to demonstrate that atheists are not any different than anyone else and thus deserve the default common respect that everyone else deserves and seems to get, and, to be witness to the event so that if its a success or failure, I can then say "Here is what this accomplished. I know because I was there." DC |
