Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but seeing more theists on the board had me wondering if any of them could enlighten me as to how they perceive the Devil, and why they need a devil at all.
Also, if it was the serpent who told the truth and god who lied, why are they following the one they do? *Disclaimer: No, I'm not a devil-worshipper. I believe in neither god, nor satan. |

Have you also read the texts of the gnostics? Some gnostics will assert that the creator of humans as protrayed in the OT is evil, while there exists another God (who had not created humans) who represents knowledge and good. The gnostics rebuked all religious laws and claimed "secret knowledge" that was transfered to some third son of Adam named Seth, which people could attain only individually through rigorous philosophical contemplations. Compared to mainstream Christianity the gnostics are much more rationality-based and less legalistic.
Milton's "Paradise Lost" contains a lot of gnostic influences, as did Blake's "the Marriage of Heaven and Hell". |
