Default The problem with the tower of babel story

God may have confounded their language, but it looks like somebody else must have confounded humanitys skin color, bone structure, and DNA of all the ethnic races of the world.

Yes, he did all that, as punishment for having such superior engineering abilities....and the super strong structural components to TRULY reach heaven....or 900 feet, whichever comes first.

I think the apologetics approach would be to say that while Adam and Eve's genes were perfect, due to our sin we've slowly mutated (evolved?) into various different "kinds" of people. Remember, they view evolution and mutation as only destructive.

As for the tower of Babel, they'd argue that it wasn't the height, but the intent to reach heaven, that was punished. Of course, using this explanation, a person could climb onto a ladder, trying to reach heaven, and be struck down...

You do have to admire the apologetics' tenacity, in a way...or imagination.

The problem with the Babel story is it is moronic.
God was afraid man would build a structure high enough to reach heaven?
Most of the skyscrapers we have today are far taller than anything that could have been built in biblical times, yet god doesn't seem to be worried about these any.
Completely idiotic.

Well since 'there were giants in those days' any building over three stories was taller than any building today.

The problem with the Tower of Babel story is that it's manifestly bogus. Fellow by the name of Robert Pennock published a book a few years back entitled "Tower of Babel; The evidence against the new creationism." He details how language evolved along with the species. Decent read, dunno if it's still in print, tho...

I guess it's a good thing NASA defines clear goals for each launch which DO NOT include reaching heaven....

Come on, people!

The ancient people could never build a tall building on their own.

That is where the aliens came in!

What, you think Canadian is a human tongue?

The bible left out the part of the Babel account where God up and moved heaven so that man couldn't ever build a tower tall enough to reach it.

Come 'n listen to my story 'bout a god named Yahweh,
He had Heaven here, it wasn't all that far away.
And then one day he exercised his power
By knocking down man's effort to reach it with a tower.

Babel, that is. Made of stone. Real tall.

Well, the first thing you know, old Yahweh's in despair.
All the angels said, Yahweh, move heaven away from there!
Said, Andromeda's the place it oughta be
So they loaded up the harps and they moved to Andromedy
Galaxy, that is, black holes, lotsa stars...

I would be curious to know how creationists explain all of the post-biblical times languages that have come into existance, most notably for all of us, English.
