Need help! Me is stupid.
Some questions from an online creationist:
"Okay, then explain to me why no less an authority than Richard Dawkins adamantly opposes Punk Eek? Where is the falsifiable evidence for punk eek? How do you falsify punk eek?" Argh! Where can I find a page or a person that/who gives the answers? Pretty please? |

Dawkins is a huge gradualist.
You might take a look at: <a href="http://ucsu.colorado.edu/~theobal/PE.html" target="_blank">All You Need to Know about Punctuated Equilibrium (almost)</a> |

AD,
You should get Dawkins' book "The Blind Watchmaker" if you can, and read his chapter entitled "Puncturing Punctuationism." Dawkins doesn't really "adamantly oppose" punk eek -- he simply feels that it fits within an overall framework of gradualism. He thinks the version of gradualism that punk eek purports to refute is a caricature of gradualism that no gradualist actually believes. In short he thinks PE is a minor wrinkle on evolutionary theory that S.J. Gould overhyped. I don't know whether Dawkins is right or wrong about all this, but that is his position -- or at least, it was his position when he wrote BW 15-odd years ago. The problem is that Blind Watchmaker is sold out in Finland.
Thanks everyone. Time to bash some creationists. |
