Default Immortality and Supernatural Identity

Many materialists regard personal immortality as being highly improbable. Such an opinion fails to take into account the immmortality of reality. Professor Victor J. Stenger asserts that reality has no central time or location. His assertion strongly supports and demands an immortal reality. This issue is discussed in the feature paper of the Immortality Institute titled "Immortality and Supernatural Identity." The web address of the Immortality Institute is www.Imminst.org. The direct address of the paper is <http://www.imminst.org/forum/index.p...ST&f=67&t=1275>.

Yes, an immortal universe is likely. But that still doesn't help the individual seeking immortality, because the universe is typically quite hostile to life. For example, a universe existing infinitely into the future is useless to us, because such a universe would be in a heat death and no life would be possible. Even if humans could find a way to to survive off a finite amount of energy indefinitely, the quality of life would become so bad that death would be a better alternative.

Default Immortal reality vs immortal universe

Quantum-mechanical vacuum fluctuation theories of universe origin permit creation of an unlimited number of universes as mentioned in the referenced paper. Individual universes may become uninhabitable or totally annihilate and decay to a vacuum state. However, reality would contain an infinite number of universes so that the death of one universe would not affect the extent to which life exists in the whole of reality.
