Freyr is fine, but a more classical wang-deity would be the Greek <a href="http://homepage.mac.com/cparada/GML/Priapus.html" target="_blank">Priapus</a>.

XYZ PDQ, dude!

Oh, yeah. I know Kokopelli. I rarely see a non-emasculated version, though. I'm often tempted to fix them.

And thanks for all the manly god pix, everyone! I'm considering printing them all out and mounting them onto one all-inclusive hat like the spikes on a crown.

Barney Frank, my Rep. He gets my ongoing vote.

I sent him a quick email thanking him for doing the right thing.

Well, if you wore a Kokopeli hat, at least the "under God " phrase would make sense.

Didn't Newdow say that the House passing such resolutions and in effect butting into his lawsuit, gives him grounds to sue them?

I do believe he did, Rufus. He seemed a little happy about it too.

Now I feel foolish. I didn't realize this is just the reconciled version of the same hollow grandstanding they did back in July, or whenever the 9th Circuit decision came down. Nothing to get too worked up about, and not really a matter of constitutionality, since it is essentially just another "(non)sense of Congress" resolution.

The critical thing is

a) For all of us to send thank-yous to the 5 brave dissidents and even the 4 "present" voters, regardless of their district, and

b) for each of us to send our *own* Representatives a "what the hell, I vote and I'll remember how disappointed I am come November" message, so they don't think they get away with this scot-free. A phone call to their office and a handwritten, signed letter mailed to their office is important; very few constituents bother doing that, so each one counts a lot more than you would think. The more politicians start thinking about nontheists as voters who care what positions they support, the more they will care about us.

We should do it right now, so they get the message before the elections.

It's an ill wind that blows no good.

With Congress consumed by Iraq and striving to bring its session to a close, much of the legislative agendas of both parties, including security proposals prompted by the Sept. 11 attacks, is falling by the wayside.

The press of time is claiming causes dear to Democrats, like new health care and worker protection initiatives, while Republicans are seeing their push for increased energy production, religion-based social programs and added tax cuts also drop off the legislative schedule.
