I heard something new from my grandmother today and was hoping somebody here could help.

My grandmother is Catholic, but attends a community group with women of different faiths. During a discussion about a new museum display, one lady piped up that "God put dinosaur bones here to test our faith". My grandma was critical of this statement , so I don't think it's Catholic teaching!

Has anybody ever heard this one before? Which denomination came up with this one? My Grandma said the lady is Protestant, but doesn't know "what kind". Thanks. Suzanne

It's an argument made by anyone who believes in the Young Earth Creation. i.e. God created the earth and man and everything in 4004 B.C.

I have also heard young earthers say that dinosaurs were put here by SATAN to test the faithful. Guess it depends on what strain of YEC you ask. :banghead:

Heh. This reminds me of one of Mark Twains' satire writings about Eve being very busy burying fossils and watching lions munch on tomatoes with their large fangs...

I've heard it before, on tv from some crazy evangelist, was a long time ago when I first heard it. My mom still states she "can't believe" there were once dinosaurs, still not sure if it's just because of their overwhelming size, or another one of her against-all-reality beliefs. She's confusing like that.

It's a fundy YEC claim. The real reason God put dinosaur bones & fossils in the ground was so we would have cool stuff to put in museums.
