I can see it now: schoolkids wearing T-shirts that say "Jesus is my hall monitor."

What correlation does school violence have with "rise of American power"?

Looks like someone didn't "get it." Read a little deeper rather than letting your knee jerk about wildly.

I was merely showing the flaw in the argument by showing that one can take any number of historical truths which occured at Time X and then claim they were the "cause" of some historical trend which started at approximately Time X.

You might even claim then that school violence started when such and such team won the World Series in Baseball so many times in a row.

hmmm.... when did Steinbrenner buy the Yankees? Surely it's his fault.

Nah, god is just punishing the US for sending men into space. That's when it all started.

or maybe it was color TV

or rock and roll music

maybe integration is the cause of it all

HUAC hearings?

the invention of silly putty?

Okay, when you look at it from either a natural or a supernatural point of view, the removal of a little ceremonial mentioning of Yahweh does little to lessen his influence. If either side looked at things in terms of consequences (with more realism than this guy), this should be an irrelevant issue. Christians and atheists can fight this battle if they want...as long as they understand that it's about principle, not consequences.

But hey, keep on fighting to have Yahweh 100% removed from the schools instead of 99% if you want. Seems like a great strategy, when there are so many other cultural fronts that Yahweh and the other gods are fighting on.

Everything has been going downhill since the invention of the Slinky (or downstairs, if you prefer).

I think it's a combination of air conditioning and TV, myself. Now we're just lazy asses that sit inside all day and night watching TV, instead of being out on the porch trying to stay cool, visiting our neighbors and watching the kids play in the yard.

(I'm only half-joking; I think the above things have had far more impact on our society than the aforementined court cases on "God in the Schools". Though I wouldn't vote to get rid of either of them.)

I think the switch from porches to patios (mainly behind the house, in a fenced yard) is also part of it. I know my dad used to say awful things about folks who actually *gasp* used their front porches; I think it was a side-effect of growing up dirt-poor in Missouri during the Depression. He wanted to distance himself as much as possible from his childhood, and porch-sittin' was definitely part of it.

I love a good porch. Wraparounds are the best.
