I have been notified of this new web page on public policy, maintained by the Institute for Humanist Studies, which may be of interest to this Forum.

The public policy pages provide information on developments in church/state affairs and other related issues in a timely fashion, and explain their significance in constitutional and policy terms to all interested parties.

It’s a quick and easy guide for keeping up-to-date on current happenings. Our resident expert on constitutional affairs, Dr. Timothy Gordinier, will not only provide you with a succinct account of recent events, he will also furnish accurate analysis on why some laws may violate the First Amendment, while others do not, in easy to understand layman’s terms. This watchdog function will keep you current on what the Supreme Court has to say about vouchers, or what the Religious Right is doing in your neighborhood to breach the wall of separation between church and state.

In the next few months the Institute will also be providing an early warning system on proposed legislation and other government actions that may potentially affect the lives of humanists in New York State. Later we hope to go national and take this project to Washington.

Dr. Gordinier has taught constitutional law at various colleges in New York’s capital district area and is the author of several law entries in the New York State Encyclopedia. His dissertation argued extensively against the view that the Free Exercise Clause required religious exemptions whenever a valid, generally applicable law interfered with an individual’s religious ractices.

Yes, we are, and yes, we checked out the link. Nothing much there at the moment, but I will monitor it for a while to see if they post anything significant. Thanks for the tip!
