what would happen?
what would happen if you raised a child and never poisened his /her mind with the concept of a "god" at an early age?
(1)when that child is about 15 give him/her the bible too read. (2)then ask the child what he/she thinks of it as a book. (3)then ask him/her if he/she now believes in a god. (4)if the answer is no respond by saying that you believe in a god, if yes respond in the opposite sense. (5) see if your childs respone changes in the light of your view. (6) try to look suprised when your child thinks that you are insane for believing in such a silly thing. What I am trying to illustrate is that our belief in a god stems from the conditioning of our enviroment to this view. Without the introduction of a god figure in early life it is highly unlikely that a child will believe in it when it is older(especially without solid proof). |

Yes, conditioning does play a large part in peoples lifetime faith. The analogy of worshipping a rock if one is taught to do so is accurate. But faith also pretends to answer the unknowable.
From cavemen to present day, people look up in the sky and ask the usual questions. They witness the death of a loved one and wonder if this is all there is. Couple these questions with even a little religion and there you have it. Ready made answers that relieve lifes greatest uncertainties. It's really no wonder why people believe in a god. |
