Default Biblical Rape

Quote:
If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. [3] He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.
Ok if there are any Christians reading this I was a virgin that was defiled when I was underage. Does this mean that according to you "objective moral standard" I should marry the man? Any suggestions or comments welcome. Also how much does he owe my Pa in U.S. dollars?

Exclamation

Hi rubbercok3000 -

(note: I am not a theist. NOT a theist! Just want to make that clear )

The only lame excuse I have ever heard for this was that "that was under the Old Law" (in the OT) and the New Testament (new covenant blah blah blah) changes that.

MY response was, more pointedly, was it or was it not RIGHT and GOOD for God to command this? And doesn't it say somewhere that God is the same "yesterday, today and forever"?
Objective morality and all that good stuff?

I've never gotten a halfway coherent response to that but let's see what the theists have to say.

I enjoy watching Christians squirm with that one as well. Another argument I've been given is, "Well, the Hebrew women had it better than some of their neighbors!". I don't believe there is any good answer to this one. In fact, this verse and others like it played a big role in my de-conversion.

The crap you quote refers to rape. However, you aren't saying you were raped. Thus it's not applicable.

Calling all christians! Calling all christians! Get um while they're hot. Unpledged virgins, only fifty shekels. Now you can have that dream girl you always wanted. Ha! What lunacy.

Hey I said I was defiled and by this I mean WITHOUT MY CONSENT. I hope that clears things up for you. I just dont think I should marry the man but being a good soouthern baptist and follower of the one true way requires this.
