But it just needs a little more...oomph. Maybe a specific name would help. Like Zargot The Omnipotent . Yeah "We the unworthy people of the state of Washington bow down on trembling knees to the greatness of Zargot The Omnipotent !, Supreme Ruler of the Universe! *the sound of thunder here* for our piddly liberties and unwarranted freedoms, do ordain this constitution. Amen *the sound of trumpets here* " I think all the other states would be jealous. |

Relax both the House and Senate bills died a quiet death. But now ol' Benham is going to hit the intiiative trail agian. Hopefully the westside will vote this crap down. I have no doubt that the far right eastside I live in will swallow it hook line and babble.

The very idea of "inalienable rights" is one born not of theism, but of the Enlightenment. There are no "inalienable rights" in Christianity except for those possessed by God: as the slavemaster of mankind, God has the authority and power to abrogate any right he has granted as he sees fit. As I see it, the very idea of "inalienable rights" as understood by the Founding Fathers was that the created nature of man contained rights that could not be abrogated, not even by God. For the purposes of the Constitution then, it does not matter where such rights originate, only that they exist. Yet another reason the "religious" reich is wrong about our "Christian nation". I partially disagree, Bill. I think most of the framers believed our rights came from their Creator god. But that would be the Deist God, not the Christian god.
If we are going to teach everything our founders believed in we should teach all students about Freemasonry, since almost all the founders were Masons. How do you think that would go over with the fundies? |

I have tried telling this to Fundies, but they very rarely listen. These days I simply point out the connexion with the Enlightenment , and accuse them of accepting Humanism by another name. Goes down very nicely indeed. |
