Why is it that so many Christians say this (usually after being shown proof against christianity...) even though most atheists are born Christians? If any Christians would answer...

All atheists, like everyone else, were born atheists (newborns lack a god belief; at least I did.)
You might say many atheists were born into xian families. |

I think it's a weak attempt on their part to justify their belief to themselves. They want to believe in all this stuff, so they make excuses to discredit anyone who can back up their disbelief with actual evidence.
