Will history repeat itself?
Will history repeat itself? Will The United States of America become The Holy United States of America? Seventeen hundred years ago the Christians succeeded in turning the Roman Empire into the Holy Roman Empire, are we next? Will history repeat itself? All people who desire religious freedom stand up to this President and the Congress and tell them: “We want separation of church and state!” Write your congressman, the President, and your local paper. We are not asking for elimination of religion, we are just asking for elimination of religion from government. Are there not enough churches in this country that it is now necessary to turn the government into a house of God?

The "Holy Roman Empire" had been neither holy, nor Roman, nor an empire, but a loose confederation of mainly German and Italian territories that lasted from Charlemagne's founding of it in 800 to its dissolution ~1800 -- around 1000 years.
However, the original posting did contain a good point about the Roman Empire adopting Christianity as its official religion. |

I have my doubts about that original point. Did Christians take over the Roman Empire, or did the Roman Empire turn Christianity into an instrument of control?
You could ask if the Religious Right is truly interested in Christianity, or is using Christianity to put conservative policies in place (why are they so big on tax cuts in the name of Christ?) |
