Default How do my new [Anti-Religious] quotes sound?

"Any philosophy that promotes the use of magical thinking over the use of critical thinking is a hindrance to scientific and intellectual accomplishment."

"Anyone with a little spare time and creative writing ability could have written religious scripture. It did not HAVE to come from a supernatural deity."

“You need not know everything about the natural world to affirm the existence of something natural. You do need to know everything about the natural world to know [without doubt or faith] if something is more than a natural phenomenon [supernatural]”

"Religious faith leaves room for speculation, and where there is speculation, there is room for other possible explanations."

I think they're rather well thought out. I like the first one in particular. The third one doesn't exactly roll off of the tongue though does it?

Yeah - I do need to refine the third quote a little; make it more "pretty". Thank you for your comments.

this is for sure.

i think they need this one urgently in the thread discussing the effect of Christianity on science.

You know, I liked the third one. But I guess it wouldn't exactly make a good bumper sticker, if that's what you're looking for.

I think this would flow better in present tense, and a bit of revision:

"Anyone with a little spare time can write religious scripture. It does not have to come from a supernatural deity."

Although, personally, I'm unsure if the second sentence is even necessary. The first alone pretty much gets the point across.

I agree that the third one needs work. The fourth is pretty good, but I can't help but feel that the last clause could be shortened and/or made a bit more elegant. But that's just me.

I don't know... That would be kind of offensive, don't you think? But when have I ever cared about offending people?

Ugg... These people... Adults taking fairy tales literally. Religion is a disease. :banghead:

Nah - I'm not trying to make a bumper sticker. I just like writing little quotes that make points. The challenge comes when you try to compress an idea into a tiny sentence. Its fun stuff.

This is a very good suggestion. I'll consider it. Thank you.

Each reason for belief needs to be covered. Faith, scripture, "intelligent design", "divine experience", blah - blah - blah.

I'll see what I can do. Thank you again.
