I sent the principal an email. We'll see where it goes from there. Thanks, HJ. I used that excerp. I figure it will give me some clout.
As for the school board? When my daughter protested the religious songs in the choir, the teacher went to the school board. Some members of the board demanded that the teacher reveal the name of the student. She didn't, but I wonder why it would even matter. Thanks for all of the replies. |

But then Industrial Technologies is what we used to call "shop", right? My shop teacher was the coach who needed something else to do. Not necessarily someone I would expect to understand history... |

Not IPS. Avon Middle School. Yes, he is a "shop" teacher. He should go make some horse-head bookends and keep his mouth shut.
The principal says he got a different version from the teacher(no specifics). I can call him(teacher) if I wish and get back to the principal if I still have issue. |

Avon, the fundie hell of the west side. Had some friends living there, they moved north a few miles to a "better" area.
Sounds like you need a sit down with all parties involved, just to get the facts straight. They can do wonders fro a teachers memory. Good Luck and hang in there, Dave |

The only kid she could find that would back up her story has a vendeta against this teacher. I feel he is lying in order to get a few shots at him. I can't use him. Integrity you know.
We are moving a few miles south to Plainfield in the spring(loan got approved last week). I grew up there. Five people in a 1100 sq. foot house doesn't cut it. Avon schools are WAY over-crowded. The new elementary school had portable classrooms the first year it was in use. |

I would personally confront the teacher before I went any further. When my son was in the third grade, his teacher hit him with a ruler for not paying attention in class. I stormed up to the school since I don't support using any kind of corporal punishment on children. The teacher told me the Bible says, "Spare the rod and spoil the child". Well you can imagine my response as an atheist to her comment. By the end of the meeting the poor teacher was in tears and I ended up feeling sorry for her, and told her as long as she promised not to do it again, there would be no further complaint. After my conference with the teacher, the entire policy regarding corporal punishment was changed to state that parents would be informed and consent given before using corporal punishment. The teacher told the principal about my complaint and that's what generated the change.
So, my point is that it's often not that difficult to get things changed if you start with the person you have a complaint with and work your way up as needed. It doesn't always work out so easily but at least you can say you let the teacher know your concerns before taking it further. |
