Default Best restaurant meal

Im really into food and cooking so finding great restaurants is a hobby of mine at those rare times I can afford it. Im curious, where did you have the best meal in a restaurant?

Mine would be at Nobu in Las Vegas. Over my wifes strenuous objections, I finally got her to agree to do the omikase menu basically you hand over a fistful of money to have the chef decide what you eat and even the waiter doesnt know what is coming up next. I mean its Vegas after allI knew Id lose the money eventually

Eight courses later I was simply blown away as if Id run some sort of food marathon. Ive had dreams about that dinner.

i've never been to a really expensive or upscale restaurant, but i've had some damn good food at a place near where i live called Thai Kitchen. VERY reasonable prices and VERY good curries and frog legs. mmmm. of course, it's the only Thai food i've ever had, but it was a helluva lot better than most stuff around where i live.

ooh, and there's a bakery/sandwich shop within walking distance of my house called Pastries of Denmark. extremely reasonable prices there, too....you can expect to pay about 7-8 dollars to get a sandwich and small drink. the sandwich comes with a bag of chips and a small piece of pastry or some other sweet freshly made goodie...like a little square of cheesecake. and these people make pastries, cheesecakes, and breads that are just orgasmic. and relatively cheap, too! they're the reason i got fat last summer...mmmmm....it was so worth it.

Well, I can't think of any restaurant that simply blows my mind but I once had such a good bowl of lobster bisque in a Bourbon St. Cafe in Tulsa, Oklahoma I had to stop myself from attempting to eat the bowl.

Here's my top three (in no particular order):

- Prejean's in Lafayette, Louisiana, anything off the menu. This is real Cajun food, not the Creole you find in New Orleans. Possibly my favorite dining experience.

- Moonlite Barbecue, Owensboro, Kentucky, Barbecued, smoked mutton and burgoo. Western Kentucky barbecue is the best type of barbecue there is; if you disagree, you're wrong . It can only be found in a limited area. Moonlite is a large buffet with incredible Barbecue and Southern food. It's a place that leaves you hurting, yet at the same time wanting more.

- McGuire's Irish Pub, Pensacola, Florida, Shepherd's Pie and microbrew. This place has the most incredible atmosphere of anyplace I've ever been. There are, at last count, 300,000 dollar bills stapled to the walls and ceilings. Next to the beaches, it's Pensacola's primary tourist destination. It's a hard place to describe, but worth a visit.

Honorable mentions: Mary Mahoney's (Biloxi, Mississippi), Bob's Clam Shack (Kittery, Maine), and a couple Ethiopian restaurants (Washington, DC).

Is it dinner time?

THOUGHTfully Yours,
Clark

Next time, try the Wasabi Grilled Salmon. Also the Brewery Sausage Plate. And you can't beat the Boxstys (sp?) for beer food. And try to catch Rich McDuff in the entertainment room - Irish drinking songs and dirty limericks.

I'll add:

~Joe's Stone Crab - Miami. Unless you get the jumbos, you have to eat a billion of the things (right claw only) but there is no sweeter crab meat to be had.

~There's a relatively well-known catfish place in Southern Mississippi; they serve the whole filet and they have some secret batter that is unparalleled. I can't remember the name for anything. [added - Jerry's Catfish near Jackson; here's a pic]

NADIA'S
508 State Street
Madison, WI
715/257-1740

The most fabulous southern French (Freedom?) food EVER. EVER. It's like a two long continous orgasm. That's the only way I can describe it. I had seafood crepes with sherry cream sauce and a Sauternes for dessert. Damn.

Mmmm, The Tandoori Kona in east Richmond, British Columbia....the butter chicken...mmmm. I know at least one other infidel lives near it (it's near the IGA on #5 Road and Cambie), and the place also has delicious vegetarian dishes.

I don't eat anything other than salads, usually, but The Beach House in Anna Maria Island, Fl, has the most wonderful potato skins I've ever had. They give a huge plate with enough to feed a family. It is covered with chili and guacamole and sour cream and olives and hot peppers and cheese...yum! Oh, and the wonderful crab legs. Hmmm, I'm getting hungry. Can't wait to go back!

But I would give up eating for a year for baklava from a Tarpon Springs bakery(cannot think of the name, will later) it has the most wonderful Greek pastry. The baklava there is like eating heaven. There is no other taste like it.

Yeah, I've had a few good entrees there. Their shepherd's pie popped into my head first. None of the food there was bad. They should build the third McGuire's in Las Vegas . That place just has the coolest atmosphere.

There are a few. I moved from Gulfport, MS in 2000. My favorite catfish joint in South MS was Aunt Jenny's in Ocean Springs. There was one in the boonies in north Gulfport (Catfish Haven, or something like that) that had a good reputation, but I think Aunt Jenny's was better.

Including the two McGuires, the Martins actually own a number of other restaurants in the NW Florida area. One of the sons I think owns Flounders (sucks, never eat there, ever) on the beach. And one of them owns a new place called, I think, Calypso, also on the beach. Haven't been there.
