Angry The Miseducation of Helen Setterfield

And last, but most certainly not least, is a book I am contributing to the re-write of right now and which harmonizes science and the Bible as completely as I have ever seen done: Barry Setterfield's "Creation and Catastrophe".

After growing up in a non-Christian home and learning (and then teaching for awhile) evolution, I cannot tell you how grateful I am to the authors above for the work they have done in those books.
The scarry thing is how many zealots think she is the resident scientific expert, defending Christ againt the EAC. Too bad the only scientific experience she has is editing her husband's c-decay theory. Wooo, I'm sure she is as gifted as Douglas in determining good science from bad.

Doesn't her god say something about bearing false witness?

I think she truly believes in her own flavor of "science". But, HOW? How DO we explain Helen and her 'scientific' rationalizations? For most Christians' delusions we can suspect that early-childhood brainwashing played a role. But Helen often claims she was raised in a non-Christian home, and I believe her. How then do you suppose she became even more delusionally credulous than other Christians? Was she born with a twisted temporal lobe or what?

I for one am not quite sure. I think she is a spinner of tall tells. As far as we know, "non-Christian" could mean "conservative Catholic." I've asked her to clarify both her education and family history, but she has never bothered to respond. I fell that she doesn't have much of a science education and wasn't raised in a secular home.

That she has to claim this sounds suspiciously like the standard fundamentalist bragline of "I used to be an atheist until..." It has no bearing on the validity of the subject matter whatsoever but says only "this stuff must be true because I used to not believe it, but now I do" which could be said about any belief in anything at all.

Apparently, "true science" includes the Ptolemaic model of the solar system.

Is that so? I'd like them sell that theory to the rocket scientists who put our astronauts out into space and on the moon.

Whatever her own science education, she has taught HS science in CA.

I doubt you'll ever get any details on her qualifications. I'd be suprised if it included any research experience. She can be very secretive, to the point of paranoia. (Heck, after her marriage she steadfastly refused to admit who she married for over a year, though many people guessed rightly that it was Setterfield.) Unless, she needs a sympathy fix. Then she belts out a "woe is me" story.

Cheers,

I need to also point out that Helen has a persecution complex as illustrated in this recent thread.

In her mind, all religions except christianity are allowed in schools, especially in science class where Atheism is preached to destory the faith of good Christian children.
