hilarious information from the latest Science News (about xians)
In the latest issue of Science News there is an article about sex offenders entitled "Men of Prey" (which is also a good pun). There is a sub-article entitled "In the Name of God (subtitle:Surveys widen scope of religious abuse)".
Contrary to popular opinion, priests sexually abuse both boys and girls. Other types of abuse are just as common as sexual abuse (denying medical care or physically punishing someone to cure a child of evil). The most amusing part of the survey: The surveys found that children were not abused by satanic cults : "More children are abused in the name of God than in the name of Satan" Bette L. Bottoms Ahh, the "good" guys with their pants down... what an ugly sight. -k |

So what exactly do you find hilarious about the fact that some priests molest both boys and girls?
"""More children are abused in the name of God than in the name of Satan""" Yes, that is very amusing How is this thread even relevant to "biblical criticism and archaeology"? |

so Vork, how many hours of your adult life do you spend shadow boxing with a "non-existant God" and the believers of a "non-existant God"? and why are you defending someone who thinks it hilarious that Roman Cath. priests are molesting children? Radical islam just killed over 3,000 americans but i doubt you are over on the Islam boards attacking the islamic faith...do you perceive modern Christianity as some special evil that needs to be removed? what is it, the blue laws that say you cant buy alcohol until after noon on sundays? or the nominal symbolic prayers at football games ? school vouchers for poor kids in schools which have failed for decades? the orphanges, medical missionary clinics and hospitals? tell us what it is which concerns you so much....about the poor wretched superstitious christians?

.. and why are you defending someone who thinks it hilarious that Roman Cath. priests are molesting children? If you can find where Kharakov says it is hilarious that children are being molested, show me. Kharakov, like many commentators, finds a certain delicious irony in the Church's complete moral failure on an issue of such obvious evil. Par for the course for the Church, but wise was the man who said that each generation fails to learn from history, and must be taught anew. Radical islam just killed over 3,000 americans but i doubt you are over on the Islam boards attacking the islamic faith... No, I'm not. Radical Islam is a minor threat that will pass; the larger threat, in my view, is the failure of US foreign policy to adequately deal with this problem, the threat to our civil rights from the war on terror, and the threat to secular democracy from the Xtian Right in the States. And course, looming war with China, the slumping corporate economy, global warming....the list of issues is long. Islamic terrorism is not even in the top ten, in my book. I live in Taiwan, you know. In any case, I am on an atheist board, not a Christian or an Islamic one. do you perceive modern Christianity as some special evil that needs to be removed? As a net evil, yes. Do you perceive it as an unmitigated good? what is it, the blue laws that say you cant buy alcohol until after noon on sundays? or the nominal symbolic prayers at football games ? school vouchers for poor kids in schools which have failed for decades? the orphanges, medical missionary clinics and hospitals? tell us what it is which concerns you so much....about the poor wretched superstitious christians? I already have, many times. I have no serious opposition to the Church of Love that does the good things you mention, but the Church of Law is a serious problem. In any case, this is a topic for Misc. Religions. BTW, I just apologized for my remarks to you in the other thread. Vorkosigan [ August 02, 2002: Message edited by: Vorkosigan ]</p> |
