Warning Label
In Jewish tradition the study of Kabala is considered so dangerous that only married men over 40 years old are allowed to enter into Kabalistic study.
Since the Bible contains explicit sex and violence, rape and incest shouldn't we shield young children from this potently dangerous text? Should the Bible get a triple X rating? At what age should children be allowed to read the Bible? It is evident from this message board that the Bible can have a very dangerous influence over the immature. Leading some into a demon haunted world of madness. The Bible like tobacco and alcohol needs a warning label: "This is an ancient text written for mature minds only! Children under 18 should not attempt to read this without Parental supervision. Unsupervised reading by the immature could lead to madness or death!" This is just a first draft for the warning label which I believe should be placed on all Bibles if anyone out there would like to add to or write an alternative warning label I would appreciate your help. |

This is a wonderful idea and is long overdue. But I wouldn't advise holding your breath waiting for it to happen.

I've often said that it is disturbing that young children are allowed and in fact encouraged to listen through sermon's dealing with passover or the flood. Maybe we could star a campaign to force Bible to have carry a M rating. And I am being very serious. |

An M rating on the Bible? Does anyone actually put ratings on books?
Christians ban books all the time. Does anyone know if someone has tried to ban the Bible from a library somewhere? |

Maybe that is what happen to me!!! I was in a Church Of Christ Private school for a few years. My bible teacher got sick of debating with me and was never allowed to return...hahaha
I do agree that it should not be read by young adults until they can study it on there own and decide for themselves what they believe! Jenn |

Yeah, let's put restrictions on what children can read. M rating for the Bible, for sure. Oh, and Huckleberry Finn needs that as well. Most of Shakespeare deals with adultery and murder and incest and the like. M rating there as well. My, my. Lots of literature has objectionable material. This could take awhile. Perhaps we should appoint a commission. They'll need sweeping powers, and unquestionable authority.
For the good of the children. of course. Then, just because sometimes art is offensive, let's make sure that we qualify themes of nudity, murder, lust and the like with M ratings. In fact, some of these artists shouldn't be shown at all, don't you agree? For the good of the children, of course. We already know there are television shows which must be banned outright. But how about public speaking? What if one of our children hears someone who says something frightening or offensive? We certainly have to watch that. So, for the good of the children, let's control speech. Oh, my, have you heard the music today? M ratings aren't enough there, that needs to be done away with entirely. Welcome to Communist Russia. You should really fall down more, you know? |

Lighten up. Presumably the original post is satirical. It's making the point that the bible is considered a "good book" by people who ban other types of entertainment as immoral and yet the bible contains all the same kind of "filth" these people rail against. I don't think anyone is seriously suggesting banning the bible. |
