New book on bird origins
Just received this book in our library:
Feathered Dinosaurs and the Origin of Flight Very interesting stuff, although it looks like the book is self-published and I'm a bit cautious about how rigorously scientific it is. It is written as a series of articles, most co-authored by Stephen Czerkas, describing several new fossil birds/dinosaurs. Wasn't this the guy who was involved in the National Geographic Archaeoraptor debacle? Interestingly, the fossil on which Archaeoraptor was based, minus the offending tail that proved to be from another fossil, is officially named as Archaeovolans, a primitive bird. Even more interestingly, although he mentions Archaeoraptor by name, he manages to avoid citing the offending National Geographic article. (edited for better link, although it seems to take forever to load) [ October 04, 2002: Message edited by: MrDarwin ]
|
