Default slightly philosophical thoughts

NOTE: im new, and haven't ever actually experienced a REAL philosophical debate before. all ive got are some questions that have been bugging me that i bet you guys could shed some light on.

ive always wondered, what is the purpose of life? not the meaning, but the purpose.

i mean, is life only meant to be destroyed, then to start anew a billion years later? are 'intelligent' lifeforms destined to become rulers of the universe, with advanced technological utopia and all that...only to be wiped out by a factor of nature (ie. sun goes supernova, etc.) that they can't possibly defeat?

discuss.

Welcome, Mikester.

I am of the opinion that it is premature to ask the question, "What is the purpose of life?" prior to formulating a satisfactory, suppportable answer to the question, "Does life have a purpose?"

Enjoy your stay.

Greetings:

The life that exists now, is the net result of a long, unbroken chain.

Life began once...and that has not changed, thus far...

Keith.

Hi Keith, is this an argument for the existence of God or what?

Good point Philsoft. I would say that life has no purpose in itself and since we are not 'life itself' but are 'alive' we are to discover what life is all about. If I now substitude the word life with the word God because [Lord] God is life is becomes easy to see what the purpose of life is all about.

Default An argument for the existence of 'God'? Not from me...

Greetings:

'God' has nothing to do with life; life exists.

Keith.
If life was real humans would never die. Since humans die it is not not life but eternal life that "exists" from where we extract life to live our temporal life and can have intimations of immortality as mortals.

err.. what is 'life'?
Eternal life? Don't we already have eternal life?
Both in the sense that we reproduce to keep life in continuem and that we ourselves, made up of atoms have been existing and will continue to exist?

Amos:

So, something has to be eternal and unchanging, before you'll acknowledge its existence?

Keith.
