Question Is Homosexuality Immoral?

I don't expect much of a response to this, but does anyone feel they have a thought out reason why homosexuality is immoral?

If you would like to do a more formal debate in the debate forum, I'd be open to doing that too.

So...any takers?

I think homosexuality is viewed as immoral mainly for religious reasons. Unlike meat eating, or even abortion, I doubt you will find many atheists who view homosexuality as wrong.

But I am not sure...

How about Ayn Rand?

Seriously, though, I think that you would find very few contemporary atheists who would view homosexuality as immoral.

Sure, why not?

Morality is a societal standard, right? So in western society homosexuality would be moral, being accepted (and protected) sexual preference. Unless you claim to have some higher moral standard like that which is sometimes interpreted from The Bible through the Ordained Ministry of Jerry Foul-well.

I would also say that in the Islamic world homosexuality is considered immoral. It is definitely not accepted sexual behavior. They even put them to death - but they put everybody to death eventually (I think the kids they strap dynamite to are being punished for stealing fig cookies. This is known as theocracy in action).

I have about as much interest in defending eitheir position as I do defending the sex lives of artichokes.

Your perfect candidate for this debate would be a Bible thumping, Born-Again Bedouin Homo-phobe (who watches the Old-Time Gospel hour on his satellite television).

Probably not too many around here.

I for one would love to see someone try to rationally defend their irrational homophobia.

Do we have anyone particular in mind?

IIRC, the last few blatant homophobics were all banned for being pricks.

bltl6 might fit the bill.

Not me... I'm snugglin' up with my burmese python "lumpy", wearing my horned helmet . Isn't that like fully dressed in these parts?

Hey, found some reference to the development of Bedouin Biblicist Homo-Phobes to get the debate going! Couple years we should have some live ones...

Had to edit - Sent an invite to the forum hosted from the site linked above!

We should have our guy online shortly!

the only reason i could possibly think of is the need for heterosexual procreation and having as many children as possible <back in the good ol' days >, homosexuality could <would?> have been viewed as a waste of healthy breeding livestock, not at all efficient for a struggling society. However, this has gone beyond the realms of obselete in modern society. But perhaps it can still be twisted enough to form what they would call an "argument". The only reason i can see that people hold on to it though is because they love to stick with the same silly traditions that religion has to offer, and this is one of them. that combined with fear of the unknown.

however, obviously none of these are very good arguments are they?
