Simple Book Question
i am currently working on an article and i need a book recommendation. in 1886 charles bradlaugh was not allowed to hold his seat in british parliament because he would not take an oath on the bible. can someone recommend a book that details somewhat clearly the central issues involved in this case. many thanx, michael lackey

I have a book"Charles Bradlaugh, Champion of Liberty". It is a hard cover(Centenary Volume). Rather old. No author, apparently a joint composition by the committee. It mentions as source material a Memoir by the Rt. Hon. J.M. Robertson, prefixed to the volume entitled "Labor and Law"(R. Forder, London, 1891). I believe that I got this book from Robb Marks, Bookseller of Rockton Illinois. I hope that this is of some help to you.

Browsing through my old books I find that I also have the two volume Charles Bradlaugh by his daughter, Hypatia Bradlaugh Bonner,
"With an account of his parliamentary struggle, politics and teachings, by John M. Robertson." These are old and hard to find. My copies are fourth edition published by T. Fisher Unwin, Paternoster Square, 1898. I am sure that I got them from Robb Marks. Wether or not he has or could get another set I could not say. Perhaps there are newer editions that would be easyer to get. The Admiral |
