Exodus 20:3 "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." pay attention now: Deuteronomy 6:4 "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:" it is very clear statement that HE IS ONE it did not say : WE ARE ONE , but he said : I AM One and you find that the whole OT full of messages like these question: when we read in the OT , about YEHWEH , who is YEHWEH , Is Yehweh Jesus , Is he God the father , or God the son thanks and GOD (not GODS) bless |

Indeed, which is why you do not find David, Solomon, and various others speaking in the plural. . . .
Then, move on to the Documentary Hypothesis where you can see how the different god names--not just El, Elohim, or YHWH--run about the texts attached to different writers and redactors. This is important to understand that one cannot really just quote passages thinking they all agree with one another. It is a bit like quoting Mt and Lk's birth narratives together! References to this are contained in the other threads on polytheism. I would add Thompson's: A Mythic Past which is more complete than Bible Unearthed particularly when explaining the anachronisms of the Patriarch narratives and what archeology says about all of the "history." --J.D. |
