Post "Cosmic Codes" by Chuck Misseler

I have been having a rather one-sided discussion on another message board regarding "The Bible Code" and other such nonsense. I have used Infidels.org and the numerous threads on the subject as points of reference...very helpful!

I was wondering if someone could touch on the subject of "Cosmic Codes" by Chuck Misseler - the following quote is from a lady on the other message board (<a href="http://www.danceart.com/shoutout" target="_blank">DanceArt.com</a> if you're interested - scroll down to "MindBenders" and check out the top three threads) who seems to be religious and is obviously skeptical about us!

It's a discussion of codes in general and Biblical codes, DNA codes, and a few other codes. Misseler's background in math is impeccable. His background in codes comes from the Department of Defense.

I have noticed that Infidel.com doesn't touch this book in their discussions of codes so you may need to find another source for it.</strong>
I did set her straight about the URL

Bree, you'll probably get better responses to this in one of the upper forums. Either Science and Skepticism or Biblical Criticism, I'll go with the former.

Has anyone seen what happens if you try <a href="http://www.infidels.com/infidels.com[/url" target="_blank">infidels.com</a>?

<a href="http://math.caltech.edu/code/petition.html" target="_blank">What the mathematicians think...</a>

This web page lists various individuals that have their Ph.D. in statistics that have declared that they reject the claims made by "Bible Code" authors to the effect that the statistical community has backed up the code analyses.

The list of professors no doubt includes some that espouse neither Judaic nor Christian faiths; it does, however, include some that are believers in Talmudic and Christian scriptures. They evidently feel it reasonable to reject the codes without feeling any need to reject the scriptures...

The topic of this thread is obviously not related to whether or not we reject the actual Bible, just these "codes" found within its scriptures. The whole rest of the site is wide open for the other stuff

I attended a Bible Prophecy conference in which Chuck Missler was one of the speakers along with Chuck Smith (who was predicting the end of the world in 1979). At the time I was still working in the Army's Intelligence and Security Command, one of the components of NSA. I had a Top Secret Special Intel clearance, and several beyond, and I sat in rapt fascination as Missler proclaimed one ridiculous fabrication after another for which he claimed special sources among his "Department of Defense" contacts, including horsehit such as, "The Hong Kong Kung Fu team is being brought into teach hand-to-hand combat to the first recruits of new United States National Police Force that will be taking over all policing in the country." Mind you, his yellow menace pitch failed to impress me, since I'd been at the world chamionships that year when Hong Kong failed to place in the top five for fighting, having gotten their asses waxed by the Americans.

The only worse bullshit I'd ever heard was from Stuart McBirnie who swore disassembled Russian subs were hidden in secret caves in Israel, and other such nonsense. Even Chicken Little Chuck Smith distanced himself from Missler eventually because Missler was just getting wackier and wackier and none of the dire shit he was proclaiming ever turned out. His following among the ignorant and credulous of the fundie community, who never seem to feel led to verify any of his loonie pronoucements, still amazes me. I know from personal experience that arguing with these mental hand puppets is futile. If facts and evidence impressed them they would not be Missler fans in the first place.

He's definitely an "Out There Fundamentalist". Lost of christians really buy in to his brand of prophetic scare tactics.
