Clean Slate
I was reading Charles Dickens's Christmas Carols. Now don't ask me why I'm reading a chistmas story at the first day of may. There was this interesting part where Scrooge promised the spirits that he would live in the past, the present and the future.
I take this to mean that he would cherish the memories of the past, live the present and be glad for the future. I find this philosophy far superior against the philosophy of God, Marx and my former co-worker. Now these three, Marx, God, and Albert, have this philosophy we shall call "the clean slate." God. During the time of Noah, God was displeased with what he saw. (like there was a time he was pleased). Seeing the filth and immorality man have come to, he decided to start again. But first he must destroy all that he had created, so he flooded the world for 40 days and 40 nights. After killing off everyone: man, woman, child, and animals, he told Noah and his family to multiply and fill the world. The world is filthy and immoral again....this time he will create a new world again but with fire. As usual killing of everyone: man, woman, child and animals. Marx. During the time of Colonialism, Marx was displeased with what he saw. He claimed that capitalism would fall down on its own weight. That the time of the great proletarian revolution is at hand. The revolution did come. It destroyed the old system and replaced it with the "working class paradise"...and in the process it killed almost everyone: man, woman, child and animal (Animal Farm). Communism is almost dead, but there are some quarters who says that they shall return. As long as the excesses of capitalism continues, they shall never die. Albert. I used to have a co-worker who had the nasty habit of formatting the hard drive whenever the system crashes. And everytime he does this, I lose all my doc, xls, cpp documents. He says that I could alway redo it. "Oh sure I'll redo it after I wring your neck." I have problem with people who have clean slate mentality. "Oh lets destroy everything and start anew." It's too black and white. It's too drastic. And in the case of religion and politics, it's too bloody. All great ideas was created on the back of previous great ideas. That is how we achieved progress, by learning and refining previous ideas. No progress was created by "starting from scratch" over and over again. |
