Arrow Look at this..(another Bakersfield thing)

In my local newspaper's editorial section, two letters to the editor in particular may be of interest to this board. The first appears as follows.

Quote:
Separation doesn't exist
It was disappointing to read the recent editorial, "Voucher doubts remain." Newspaper editors, who should be well informed and aware, continue to buy into the misleading, deceptive and divisive premise that the First Amendment to our Constitution some how "creates the church-state separation."

The fact is, the phrase "separation of church and state" occurs in our Constitution or its amendments and has been "created" by politicians and appointed judges and unfortunately promoted by the news media.

The Constitution does state that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

History and common sense concludes that the writers of the Bill of Rights added this amendment to prevent a state-sponsored church as was the case in 18th century England and certainly not to "prohibit the free exercise of religion" in government, politics, public education as well as private life in "the land of the free."
And now look at this one.

Quote:
We're at spiritual war
Since Sept. 11, there have been incessant attacks on America's infrastructure. The ACLU, self-proclaimed rationalists, militant atheists and other radicals have been very busy trying to recreate America in their own warped image.

They seem determined to force the wishes of the few on the many and to destroy our First and Second Amendment rights. If they succeed, they will make null and void the very reasons for which I served my country in the 1960s and for which I have spent my adult life teaching history.

No doubt the militant liberals hope that we will, pusillanimously, remain silent as lambs to the slaughter and remain tolerant of their blatant intolerance.

Unfortunately, political or career expedience prevents many good people from standing up for their Christian values and the traditional, time honored, American ideologies that have made our country great. Edmund Burke's axiomatic expression says, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."

We are presently witnessing a spiritual war for the hearts, minds and souls of men and women. Are we prepared for the inevitable battles?

As if the IGWT posting wasn't enough, my city is also littered with people of the above mindset.

One thinks the separation doesn't even exist, the other feels at war with the "atheist radicals."

Sometimes I am not only an atheist because I find god irrational, but also because I want to give these punks hell.

Surely a True Christian (TM) would stand up for their values, yea verily, even clamor to be martyred.

They just don't make Christians like they used to in the old days.

cheers,
Michael
