Thumbs down Fundies sneak "Bible history" classes into public schools

It seems that the Xians have succeeded at sneaking "Bible history" into the public school curriculum throughout the state of Florida. They aren't teaching about the Bible in a neutral way (as one would expect in a comparative religion course), they're teaching about the Bible from a strict Protestant/fundamentalist perspective. Here are a few examples of what's included in the curriculum:
  • At Niceville High School in the Okaloosa County school district, students are asked: "What is Jesus Christ's relationship to God, to creation, and to you?"
  • The "Santa Rosa County Curriculum" that is also used in the Escambia County school district describes Genesis 1-11 as the "Early history of man," and refers to "Creation" and "Flood" as "historical event(s)."
  • On the apparent assumption that all students are Christians, students at Columbia High School in the Columbia County school district are asked the following exam question: "If you had a Jewish friend who wanted to know if Jesus might be the expectant [sic] Messiah, which book (of the Gospels) would you give him?"
  • In the Levy County school district, while students reportedly are permitted to use "biblical translations of their choice" in the courses, the choice must be from "an original King James Translation" - a Protestant version of the Bible.

What the...

[sarcasm]

Yeah, guys, thanks for the help. I really need the Bible crammed down people's throats so even more of them hate it. Thanks a lot.

[/sarcasm]

It is apparently possible for two people with opposing views to agree against a thing for completely different reasons.

On a side note, isn't it interesting that, along with poor spelling we get an errant definition of Biblical translations (The King James Version is, after all, one of many translations).

Worst of all, from my Fundamentalist viewpoint, is the fact that paid Government workers are teaching children how to interpret the Bible.

Thank you for that, t-pizza. We don't get that perspective often enough here.

Maybe in due time someone will come along and teach the GOVERNMENT and its paid 'government workers' real biblical history. <img src="graemlins/boohoo.gif" border="0" alt="[Boo Hoo]" />
