Thumbs down

Personally, if I was her, I'd be pissed that god didn't get to me before I was burned over 77% of my body. "I think I'll let this one escape unscathed, let this one get squashed, and save this one after I let her toast for a while. Maybe she'll learn a good life-lesson from it."

O.K.....let's see:
A woman burned horribly...and she THANKS (the G word) for this???? That is insane. I can picture that prayer now..., "O, Lord, Please mar me for life!"

Sad.

I honestly think Christians don't logically think of the events when they credit god or blame the devil,
Sure, and that is exactly the way those who benefit from religion would have things: people unquestioningly believing in a god and attributing things to god without even realizing they are doing so. The less of their minds they use, the better. This was an excellent example of that.

Good point Amos. I was thinking along those lines. Maybe she just said "thank god" reflexively without really meaning it. For many people, it's a figure of speech, not a declaration of faith.

I do see where some criticism might be due but since I don't know what was really going through her mind when she made the comment I can't say anything for or against her. I realize most of the people who have posted probably don't believe in any form of life beyond this one, but I think anyone who does may have a very different view of things. Is the most important thing to merely stay alive in this world? If the answer is a yes then I might actually agree with the criticism.

She was the one that thanked God for being alive, not simply saying she accepts she is alive despite so many other people dying. She said she asked God to save her and God did, implying that thousands of other people who died must not have asked God to be saved from a horrible death.

Whenever I catch myself saying "Oh my god" or something similar I mentally curse the people and society that have implanted such reflexive thoughts into my head. I do not simply shrug and say, "Oh, it must just be a part of my language." I see it as evidence of mental programming starting at birth.

Just because such ideas seem innocent doesn't mean they shouldn't be examined. Obviously it seemed important enough that it was quoted as part of the interview.

I am glad she is alive and I am happy for her that she will be okay, but thanking God for her situation is ludicrous.

Actually, I admit that I sometimes delight in saying "Oh my god." Growing up in Fundieland, that was (and is, in many circles) the absolute most sinful phrase to say, second only to Goddamit. I say it now in defiance of my fundie days.

Much like "who do you think you are" and "I'll be honest with you." The implication here that we are not ourselves and seldom speak the truth.

If God saved her, then surely it must have been Satan who brought the building crashing down on her. And how many of those (who had time) who died do you think cried out to God? Most probably. I suppose they either weren't worthy, or their demise somehow fit into God's 'plan'.

Oh, and what about the 'cross' made out of girders they found in the rubble. It must be a sign, there were probably only thousands or millions of support members fastened at right angles in the two buildings. I mean come on, God's practically shouting in our ears here. "Hellloooo?"

Or the cop who was on the eightieth something floor when it collapsed, and got out with only a couple of broken bones. Another miracle. Woooowwww...the law of large numbers. I'll betcha if you dropped a few thousand people out of an airplane there's gonna be somebody who lives to tell the tale. And whadaya know, they were praying to God before they hit.
