Post Direction needed for next step in Biblical Study

I'm currently 2/3's the way through my second von Rad book, Genesis A Commentary, and am getting ready for a new book, but I don't know whether I should stick with Genesis again, or if I should move forward to Exodus or Numbers. Also, I'm wondering about who are the better scholars out there. Currently, the author list I'm looking for is short, consisting only of von Rad, Childs, Gunkel, and Noth.

Any help would be nice.

What are your goals for studying the Bible? Do you plan to study both the Hebrew torah and the Xian New Testament? Have you read any good intro texts? A little more information would help.

Virtually no interest in the NT. However, I do want to eventually study the OT in Hebrew.

I have read von Rad's Old Testament Theology. Am reading von Rad's Genesis, a Commentary. I've read John Miles', Biography of God (course requirement). I've taken a college course in Hebrew Scriptures.

My goal is to study the Torah in its entirety. I also want to do background on the remaining Tanakh.

This is my background and goals.

In that case I'm afraid I can't be much help as my area of interest is the NT. There are a few around ehre with a background in OT studies. Perhaps if you posted a specific question you get some response.

So far, I'm nearly through my first serious commentary on Genesis. In my studies, should I follow with a second commentary of the book? If so, who should I read: Gunkel, Matthews (cough), etc...

Or should I move onto Exodus?

Include in your reading "Isaac Asimov on the Bible" as a good reference guide.
