Seriously, and with all due respect, it is a falsehood to say that anyone stopped you from praying. No one can, no more than they can stop me from thinking.

They can and do have the right to stop you from talking though.
Which is why I corrected myself. Although I've always been respectful of authority which is why I stopped. So technically I stopped myself, although not without some 'prodding' from the teacher.

Were you supposed to be doing something else at the time?

Nope...school work was done. I had done all my studying and such, and had completed all homework...was told at that time I could do 'anything I wanted to do.'

I guess I still don't understand why you even stopped yourself.

(Genuine confusion)

Isn't praying kind of like thinking in a way?

When I'm in a meeting and my mind wanders, no one knows until they ask me a question and I have no idea what the topic is.

So why would you stop. Do prayers not work if your hands aren't touching? Does god not hear you if your eyes are open?

Seriously, I can go on complete vacation in the middle of a meeting of two. They can't stop me, LOL. Let _alone_ in a class. Yikes, I did some of my best sewing plans ever during thermodynamics.

Seriously confused about how this could possibly be an issue.

That is the oddest thing. Are you leaving something out that might explain this odd policy of your school?

You know, I hesitate to bring this up, but...

It's been my experience that the only people who do such things are fundies who are trying to make a point about laws that they find painful. They misunderstand the law and try to make martyrs out of themselves (or others), "Look, they say we can't pray, so I'm going to show just how stupid it is." Taking to a ridiculous limit, as it were.

What is your knowledge of this teacher's theology?

Rhea, I have no idea what is going on here. If the purported events as described by Muffinstuffer did take place then his prayer was certainly unobtrusive and innocuous and I would say that the teacher was out of line. Unless of course there were extenuating circumstances that Muffinstuffer is not sharing with us. Certainly it would not surprise me if there were not some cases of people being denied unobtrusive and innocuous prayer in public schools but I suspect it is not numerous else I would have heard of at least one or two notable court cases surrounding such denials.

I hope Muffinstuffer is not the kind of proselytizer you think he is. The Christians here have been working so hard on me to get me to think that they may be decent people that it would certainly dash such thoughts if I were to find that Muffinstuffer was just another liar for Jesus.

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that muffinstuffer was the one blowing it out of proportion, I was assuming that he was reporting factually and that the TEACHER was the fundy with an axe to grind. That is the kind of situation that I had heard of. The Teacher (or principal or administrator) saying "they told me I can't let anyone pray, so I'm going to go by the letter (as I see it) and show them just how stupid this is!" and they proceed to take a kid like the muffstuffer and catch him praying and tell him to quit, even though they are BOTH fundies.

KWIM?

I continue to assume the best of the Stuffer. I'm just still very confused about the situation. It doesn't make sense to me yet.
